OUR REQUEST FOR
SUPPORT AND COLLABORATION:
To materialise the Model Tea Estate and our vision, we require experienced partners to work in partnership with London Tea Exchange. Whilst we are confident on all tea related matters, we require support from experts from a planning perspective but also on the ground to address issues on and solutions for Housing, Education, Medical, Sustainability, Water, Infrastructure, and other areas. Some of the specific asks we have include:
To be a signatory of the Fair Pay Charter and a partner in developing the Model Tea Estate.
A commitment to implement policies under the Charter and that improve social, economical and environmental conditions for those living and working with the Tea Estate.
In particular, we will be looking at the experience, expertise and successes already achieved by many globally but specifically with regard to the house building programme, water and waste management and innovation as well as infrastructure which we wish to be deployed within the Tea Estate, to build in the region of 1,500 family homes, improve access to clean water, improve medical facilities, educational facilitation, business development opportunities for inhabitants, combat climate change, innovate and ensure a sustainable future for all and ultimately support the lives and futures of around 10 000 people.
To work as part of a multi stakeholder team and help London Tea Exchange develop a new monitoring and verification platform of the social, economical and environmental standards to track progress.
Support and enhance existing labour legislation which protects workers in the tea industry and to help promote this globally through various own channels and partners.
To provide annual financial support to enable the implementation of the Model Tea Estate as well as contribute towards the management programme.
To actively participate in and have representation at global programmes including C40 Conferences, COP events and other UN Programmes.
The above is not exhaustive list, but we hope sets out a clear map of our vision and can be the starting point to progress our thinking, discussion and ultimately the implementation of positive change.
